HMO properties (houses in multiple occupations) by law require a fixed wiring electrical installation condition report to be carried out at an interval of no longer than 5 years and have a certificate issued for the installation. The local authority can request this certificate to check that landlords are complying with the laws. HMO's also need to have working fire and heat alarms, and CO2 alarms if there are gas appliances present on the property.
