HMO properties (houses in multiple occupations) by law require a fixed wiring electrical installation condition report to be carried out at an interval of no longer than 5 years and have a certificate issued for the installation. This certificate can be requested by the local authority to check that landlords are complying with the laws. HMO's also need to have working fire/heat alarms and CO2 alarms if there are gas appliances present on the property.
